Esta lloviendo! Esta lloviendo!

I remember several things from Mr. K’s Spanish classes in high school. But some stand out more than other, other than the trips to the computer lab to “work” on our integrative Spanish projects, which always turned into myspace time (and I mean ALL of us :P ), and speeding through our Spanish books and requirements crazy fast. I really remember that “the personal a is on p. 92,” even if I can’t quite remember which book it’s in, I know that in that book, it’s on p. 92. I also remember singing/chanting Esta lloviendo! Nevando, nevando. Esta lloviendo! Nevando nevando. And each time I try to use either of those words (rain or snow) I go back to that chant in my mind to remember the infinitive from the present participle. I still mess up all that time, because I try to do it all in a split second, but chant has been in my head like crazy lately; because well, we’ve received a bit of rain lately, including today. (So I can now correctly say, ‘esta lloviendo…mucho.’) And it’s winter, so I’ve asked people a few questions like, ‘does it snow here in the winter?’

But with the rain also comes the fear within me of not being able to go to the villa, because the roads will be disgusting (they’re made of dirt combined with garbage and who knows what else) and I’ve always heard it smells a lot when it rains, because all the old garbage rises from the grave of the dump underneath the villa (in the Bajo area more than others). I’m supposed to go around with a new woman today. I met her last night with Andres and he told her about my goals to meet more women from the church and suggested that we go to the primary school to meet the mothers there. This woman is really a social butterfly and has some great connections to other women within her church. This is the church of the pastor couple that I’ve already spoken with and shared my vision for the future and for my time here (and they agreed with all of it!). SO, I’m very excited about the possibilities over the next few days.

Please pray with me to put on the Armor of God as I enter the villa time and again, and that my heart will be so encompassed by love for Christ that he will completely shine through me and that I can love these people, these women with his love.

In parting: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:15-17
